Depression Counselling & Support
When everything feels heavy and hopeless, talking to someone who understands can make a real difference. You don't have to go through this alone.
Understanding Depression and Low Mood
Depression can feel like a heavy weight that makes everything harder. You might feel sad, empty, or numb. Things you used to enjoy might not interest you anymore. Getting out of bed, seeing people, or doing everyday tasks can feel overwhelming.
Depression affects people differently. Some people feel tearful and sad, while others feel irritable or just emotionally flat. You might struggle with sleep, appetite, concentration, or have thoughts that you're not good enough or that things will never get better.
Depression isn't a sign of weakness, and it's not something you can just "snap out of." It's a real condition that affects millions of people, and with the right support, you can feel better.
Counselling for depression can also help where low mood overlaps with other difficulties—for example, anxiety and depression can occur together, and grief can sometimes bring on a period of depression too. If either of those sounds closer to what you're experiencing, our anxiety counselling and bereavement counselling pages may also help.

In ongoing sessions, you can talk about whatever feels important—your feelings, what's been difficult, things from your past, or worries about the future. Your counsellor will help you make sense of what you're experiencing and work with you to find ways forward.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place by phone or video call. This means you can have your session from somewhere you feel safe and don't have to worry about travelling when you're feeling low.

How do I know if I'm depressed?
Depression can look different for everyone. Common signs include persistent sadness, loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, changes in sleep or appetite, low energy, difficulty concentrating, or feeling hopeless. If these feelings are affecting your daily life, counselling can help.
Can counselling help with depression?
Yes. Counselling is an effective treatment for depression. It provides a supportive space to explore your feelings, understand what's contributing to your low mood, and develop strategies to feel better.
Do I need to be diagnosed with depression to get counselling?
No. You don't need a formal diagnosis to seek support. If you're struggling with low mood or sadness that's affecting your life, that's reason enough to reach out for help.
